About Red Butte Ranch

Just 6 miles west of Elbert, Red Butte Ranch was established in 1994 and is currently run by Professional Barrel Racer, Jessi Mead.

Jessi has dedicated her life to advancing the performance horse industry, with a particular focus on barrel racing, training, and breeding. With a wealth of experience across all aspects of horsemanship, Jessi's true expertise lies in helping horses and riders reach their full potential.

Born and raised on her family's ranch in Cedar Grove, New Mexico, Jessi began riding at an early age. She competed in junior rodeos, 4-H horse shows, and play days starting at just eight years old. By the time she was twelve, she had broken and trained her first barrel horse, and at fifteen, she bred her first mare and raised her first colt—setting the stage for a lifelong career as a rider, breeder, and trainer.

In her twenties, Jessi recognized the success of the horses she had raised for herself and decided to establish her own breeding program. Over the years, her breeding and training efforts have consistently produced highly competitive performance horses that have earned championships and world titles.

Today, Jessi operates Red Butte Ranch near Elbert, Colorado, alongside her daughter Jackie.
